Knee surgery KOs Harvey 4-6 weeks: Three days after learning Lew Ford would need arthroscopic knee surgery, the Twins heard the same news about reserve infield candidate Ken Harvey. Like Ford, Harvey is expected to miss four to six weeks after having the procedure done on his right knee Thursday. Harvey also had been bothered by a pulled chest muscle. "That's unfortunate, because it looked like [Harvey] could swing the bat," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. Fehr pays a visit Union chief Donald Fehr made his annual visit to Twins camp and said the tenor between the owners and players has been predictably upbeat since the t
Twins bats starting to come around, with 9 hits in 3 innings against Willis: FORT MYERS, FLA. - It wasn't a power show, but the Twins offense is starting to pick up. After scoring eight runs Sunday, the Twins whipped the Florida Marlins 9-1 Monday behind an 18-hit attack at Hammond Stadium. Nine of those hits came in the first three innings off All-Star lefthander Dontrelle Willis. There were a couple bloopers. Justin Morneau and Ken Harvey each hit bouncing balls that just got by the third baseman for doubles. A couple hits were against drawn-in infields. But the Twins put the ball in play, moved runners over and used their speed. Nick Punto and Torii Hunter each

JOE POSNANSKI COMMENTARY: The Royals caravan runs on fans' hope: This is the third year of the Royals caravan column, which means by baseball standards this thing is now a full-fledged tradition. Three years is a long time with the Royals. Heck, Tony Peña didn't last three years. The free-doughnuts-for-12-hits campaign barely lasted three years. Ken Harvey was a Kansas City All-Star, and he didn't last three years.

Slowey among 14 nonroster Twins invitees: The Twins have invited 14 nonroster players to spring training, including righthander Kevin Slowey, a former second-round pick. Slowey was 4-2 with a 1.01 ERA in 14 starts at Class A Fort Myers, then 4-3, 3.19 in nine starts at Class AA New Britain. Considering the Twins used 10 different starting pitchers last season and head into next season with an unstable starting rotation, Slowey, perhaps the Twins' best pitching prospect yet to debut, could be called up. Other players to note among the invitees: Designated hitter Ken Harvey, a former All-Star with the Royals who missed all of last se
Twins give former All-Star Harvey to minor-league deal: First baseman Ken Harvey and the Minnesota Twins agreed Friday to a minor-league contract. An All-Star in 2004 with Kansas City, Harvey didn't play in the majors last season after a bad back limited him to just 12 games in 2005.
Twins sign three to Minor League deals: The Twins have signed three players to Minor League deals, with invitations to Spring Training. Left-handed pitchers Mike Venafro and Carmen Cali and first baseman/DH Ken Harvey will all try to compete for roster spots.
