Paparella found himself in a embarrassing position once at Fenway Park. While working
behind the plate, he was unaware that first base ump Ed Hurley had called "time"
and subsequently allowed Detroit pitcher Paul Foytack to pitch to Frank Malzone and
register two strikes. After the mess was cleared up, Paparella had to cancel the
two strikes on Malzone, which obviously didn't sit well with Foytack.
