Cuban-born Jose Tartabull was one of the fastest men in the American League. He got
down the line
from home to first in 3.4 seconds. A singles hitter, he batted a high
of .312 with the 1965 A's, but never played regularly. He played in all seven games
of the 1967
World Series, leading off and playing right field for the Red Sox in
three of them. His son Danny hit as many home runs in his first ten games with the
Mariners as Jose hit in his career (two).
