Rawlings was a deft fielder and acceptable hitter who kept losing his middle infield
jobs to better players. He played second base for the Braves until
Buck Herzog arrived
and shortstop while
Rabbit Maranville was in WWI. He played 2B for the Giants until
Frankie Frisch switched back from third, and for the Pirates until Glenn Wright bumped
Maranville from short to second. He handled 48 chances flawlessly in his only World
Series with the Giants in 1921.
