Johnny Logan from the Chronology
Jun 15, 1961 - The Braves trade SS Johnny Logan to the Pirates for OF Gino Cimoli.
Apr 26, 1959 - Was it something I said? Reds pitcher Willard Schmidt is twice hit by pitches in the 3rd inning in an 11-10 win over the Braves. Braves pitchers Bob Rush and Lew Burdette do the plunking. It is a first in the major leagues but the ML mark will be tied in 3 years by Frank Thomas and later by Brady Anderson. But Schmidt will likely remain the only batter to hit and be hit twice in an inning. While on the mound in the 4th inning Schmidt is hit again when a Johnny Logan line drive strikes him on the right hand and he has to leave the game. The two teams use 14 pitchers between them to tie a NL record with the 8 pitchers by the Reds tying another NL record. Warren Spahn is tagged for the loss his 2nd in 2 days to the Reds.
Sep 23, 1957 - The Milwaukee Braves clinch the pennant by beating the Cardinals 4-2 on Hank Aaron's 11th-inning HR. Billy Moffett serves up the HR pitch his only gopher ball all season. The homer Aaron's 43rd comes with 2 outs and Johnny Logan on base.
Apr 21, 1957 - Don Hoak the Reds' baserunner on 2B breaks up a DP by fielding a Wally Post ground ball and flipping it to Braves SS Johnny Logan. The umpire calls Hoak out for interference but Post is given a single on the play. The major leagues will subsequently rule that both the runner and batter are out in this situation. The Braves still win 3-1. In yesterday's 5-4 loss to the Braves baserunner Johnny Temple let Gus Bell's ground ball hit him with the same result; Temple out for interfering and Bell awarded a single.
Jun 27, 1956 - The Braves lose 4-3 to the Phils in 11 innings. Stan Lopata's tape-measure homer in the bottom of the 11th is the game-winner. Willie Jones and Andy Seminick also homer for the Phils while Johnny Logan and Hank Aaron do likewise.
Apr 16, 1955 - En route to losing their first 5 games the Redlegs hit 5 solo HRs but lose to the Braves 9-5. The Braves Johnny Logan goes 5-for-5 and Del Crandall Johnny Logan and Joe Adcock slug solo homers for Milwaukee. Cincy's 5 solo shots-2 by Ray Jablonski-and just 5 runs scored ties a ML record.
Aug 30, 1953 - Led by OF Jim Pendleton's 3 HRs and 5 runs scored the visiting Braves tie the Yankees' 1939 ML record for the most HRs in a game with 8 in their 19-4 blasting of Pittsburgh in the first game of a doubleheader. Eddie Mathews (2) Del Crandall Jack Dittmer and Johnny Logan also homer. Pendleton is only the 2nd rookie in history to hit 3 HRs in one game. In game 2 of the doubleheader the Braves continue to take advantage of Kiner's legacy-shortened fences-and hit 4 more HRs to win 11-5. The Braves will add four more on September 3rd for another mark (16 homers in 4 games). Eddie Mathews' 4 HRs for the day give him an NL-leading 43; he will end the season with 47 HRs 30 of them on the road to set an ML record.
Aug 15, 1952 - After losing 12 straight starts to Larry Jansen dating back to July 7 1950 the Braves finally defeat the Giant hurler 4-3 with 3 runs in the 9th. Jansen does not allow a hit till the 8th. New York takes the nitecap 3-1 behind Max Lanier. Johnny Logan's 1st ML HR is the only tally for the Hubmen.
