    Johnny Berardino

    Johnny Berardino from the Chronology

Aug 18, 1952 - The Indians get infielder George Strickland and pitcher Ted Wilks from Pittsburgh for Johnny Berardino‚ minor leaguer Charlie Sipple and $50‚000. For Berardino‚ it is his 2nd tour of duty with the Pirates‚ but he should be used to it; he had two stints with the Indians and two with the Browns.

Dec 9, 1947 - The Indians pick up Johnny Berardino from the Browns for Catfish Metkovich and $50‚000. Because of a broken finger‚ Metkovich will be returned to Cleveland‚ and the Indians will add another $15‚000 to complete the deal. At the end of 1952‚ Berardino will drop baseball as well as the 2nd "r" in his name‚ and start a successful acting career in Hollywood.

Nov 22, 1947 - The Senators swap Gerry Priddy to the Browns for Johnny Berardino‚ but Berardino announces that he is retiring to devote full-time to his movie career. Commissioner Happy Chandler nullifies the deal and Berardino then un-retires. St. Louis won't keep him for long. Priddy‚ who refused to sign a letter of support for manager Ossie Bluege in mid-season‚ will end up in St. Louis anyway when the Senators sell him for $25‚000 on December 8.

Jun 8, 1941 - Yankee C Bill Dickey pulls off the only unassisted DP of his career in the first of two with the Browns. Dickey catches Bob Swift's pop foul along the first base line and tags first to double off the straying runner‚ Johnny Berardino. The Yanks sweep the Browns‚ 9-3 and 8-3. DiMaggio collects 7 RBIs on the afternoon‚ with 2 homers in the opener and 2 hits in the nitecap. He has now hit in 24 straight. From today's 2nd game to July 26th‚ Joe will jolt 11 homers without striking out.

Jun 22, 1940 - After winning 1-0 yesterday‚ the Senators trip the Browns‚ 11-10. The Browns take an early lead on Harlond Clift's grand slam and two homers by Johnny Berardino‚ the 2nd with 2 men on.

Jun 18, 1940 - The Browns top the Red Sox 11-7 in St. Louis when Johnny Berardino cracks a grand slam off Jim Bagby in the 10th inning.
