    John Curtis

Curtis threw three no-hitters as a Clemson University freshman, and in the 1967 Pan American games he became the first U.S. pitcher to defeat Cuba. After going 11-8 and 13-13 for the Red Sox in 1972-73, he was traded to the Cardinals, who were in need of a lefthanded starter. He lasted another decade in the majors because of his adaptability; he started and worked in long and short relief, three times winning 10 games a season. While still active he worked as a sportswriter for the San Francisco Examiner. (FJO)
