Pineiro to miss start; prospect gets a shot: Cardinals starter Joel Pineiro was scratched from his scheduled Sunday start after experiencing tightness in his right shoulder, and his absence could spell opportunity for an early darling of camp.
Wainwright, Looper try to build on '07: Even with Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder sidelined after elbow and shoulder operations performed last season, the Cardinals' 2008 rotation actually has much less uncertainty this spring than in 2007.
As the Cardinals began the pitcher-catcher phase of their camp Friday, Wainwright and Looper are here as double-figure winning starters, along with righthander Joel Pineiro, who had a good two months after the team traded for him.
Waiting game for Duncan: Dave Duncan typically has little use for small talk when discussing his craft. Duncan walked into camp Thursday with this spring's rotation more vague than last year's, partly because of injuries but also because of more numerous alternatives.
Duncan rattled off Adam Wainwright, Braden Looper and Joel Pineiro as immovable pieces of his projected rotation. Mark Mulder remains an unknown. Chris Carpenter is not yet seven months removed from elbow ligament replacement.

Mozeliak jumps into new role: John Mozeliak, the club's interim general manager, launched into his new role with a flurry of phone calls, meetings and interviews.
That included phone calls to free-agent manager Tony La Russa and the representatives of several key free agents. Mozeliak planned to reach out to the agents of three players — David Eckstein, Russ Springer and Joel Pineiro — on Thursday.
