Hoover was the Tigers shortstop in 1943-45 while all three Detroit shortstops from 1942 -- Billy Hitchcock, Johnny Lipon, and Murray Franklin -- were in the military. His last ML appearance came in Game Six of the 1945 World Series. Hoover drove a run in during that game, which the Cubs won 8-7 in extra innings. (JCA)
