Jul 20, 1898 - Joe Corbett the Baltimore hurler who has been holding out all season for a higher salary spars with brother Jim heavyweight champion of the world to prepare him for his fight with Kid McCoy. Joe Corbett who won 24 games in 1897 will not pitch in the majors again till 1904.
Mar 17, 1898 - Baltimore manager Ned Hanlon has a dilemma in that one-half of his playewrs agree to go to Macon Georgia for spring practice while others including Willie Keeler and Joe Kelley want to stay up north. Kelley also wants his salary raised from $2700 to $2800. Pitcher Joe Corbett threatens to hold out.
