From 1937 through 1941, Wasdell was a valued backup - a good outfielder, a smooth first baseman, and a dependable lefthanded pinch hitter. Brooklyn dealt him in a December 12, 1941 package for Arky Vaughan, and he served as Pittsburgh's starting left fielder in 1942. He played regularly with the Pirates and Phillies through the end of WWII. (JK)
