From 1937 through 1941, Wasdell was a valued backup - a good outfielder, a smooth
first baseman, and a dependable lefthanded pinch hitter. Brooklyn dealt him in a
December 12, 1941 package for
Arky Vaughan, and he served as Pittsburgh's starting
left fielder in 1942. He played regularly with the Pirates and Phillies through the
end of WWII.
