Jason Simontacchi said he threw the inside fastball to let Prince Fielder know he wasn't scared to come in on him. He called it an "effect pitch." But Simontacchi's pitch tailed back toward the plate and certainly had an effect on Fielder, who was looking for a fastball and drove it into the Nationals' bullpen for a three-run homer in Milwaukee's 6-4 victory over Washington on Tuesday night.
NL NOTES: Nationals purchase Simontacchi's Class AAA contract: The Nationals will purchase the contract of right-hander Jason Simontacchi from Class AAA Columbus and start him against the Milwaukee Brewers today, the team announced.
Simontacchi, Logan likely to go on DL: Both right-hander Jason Simontacchi and center fielder Nook Logan are expected to miss the start of the season because of right groin injuries.
