One of the most famous sportswriters of his time, Grillo was a sports editor in Cincinnati in the 1890s, where he became a confidant of Ban Johnson. When the American Association was reorganized in 1904, he became league president. He returned to sports writing a few years later with the Washington Post, and was with the Washington Star when he retired in 1917. (NLM)
