    Irv Noren

A Dodger farmhand in the late 1940s who never made the talent-rich Brooklyn team, Noren played for the Yankees in the 1952, 1953, and 1955 World Series against the Dodgers. A lefthanded contact hitter and an excellent fielder, he was named to the All-Star team in 1954 when hit .319 as the Yankees' left fielder. He hit his career-high 14 home runs as a Senator rookie in 1950, and tied a since-broken AL record for most putouts in a game by an outfielder with 11 (9/25/51). Noren often played in pain from chronic knee problems. He played for the Chicago Gears of the NBA. (EW)
