    Harry Krause

Krause won his first ten starts as a rookie in 1909; six of the ten wins were shutouts, and four of those were 1-0. He finished the season 18-8 with an AL-best 1.39 ERA, the ninth-best AL ERA ever and a record low for AL rookies. He still had to scrape for work on a staff that featured Jack Coombs and Hall of Famers Chief Bender and Eddie Plank, and he was 6-6 and 12-8 the following two seasons as the Athletics won consecutive World Championships. He didn't pitch in either WS. Krause was sent to the minors with a sore arm in 1912 and found a home in the Pacific Coast League, winning 249 games there in 16 seasons. Overall, he won 337 games in his professional career. (NLM)
