The younger brother of former ML catcher
Danny Breeden, Hal had good power numbers
in the minors and the Cubs traded
Hoyt Wilhelm to get him from Atlanta. He was only
used as a platoon player and pinch hitter in the ML. With the Expos in 1973, his
most active season, he batted 258 times and had 15 homers. On July 13 that year he
became only the second player to hit pinch homers in both games of a doubleheader.
From 1976 to 1978 he played for the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League.
