    Gus Suhr

Suhr arrived in Pittsburgh after batting .381 with 51 homers and 177 RBI in 202 Pacific Coast League games in 1929. A slick-fielding, lefthanded-hitting first baseman, he had a 107-RBI rookie season, then was benched due to poor hitting. On September 11, 1931, he began what was then a NL-record streak of 822 games played, which ended June 4, 1937, when he attended his mother's funeral. He topped 100 RBI in three NL seasons, in 1936 finishing third in the league with 118. (ME)
