The hard-working Blaeholder was one of the original exponents of the slider, perfecting the "nickle curve" while pitching for the hapless St. Louis Browns. Although he never had a winning season for the Browns, he had ten wins or more for seven consecutive years. His four shutouts led the AL in 1929. (JK)
