The younger brother of Branch
Rickey, Frank worked as a sheriff and an FBI agent
before joining his brother's scouting staff in 1926. He scouted for the Cardinals
for almost 20 years, and briefly for the Giants, Dodgers, and Pirates, signing Enos
Slaughter, Preacher Roe, Johnny Mize, and Marty Marion. Unlike most of his contemporaries,
he seldom offered signing bonuses.
