Scott led
American League shortstops in fielding average for eight straight seasons
(1916-23) and played 1,307 consecutive games, a streak record that
Lou Gehrig would
eventually demolish but that no other player ever matched. He took over in Boston
in 1914, as the
Tris Speaker-Joe Wood era was ending, and went to the Yankees eight
years later as
Roger Peckinpaugh's replacement. His iron-man effort was ended in
May 1925 by lame knees that reduced his efectiveness.
