Shore's baseball career was intertwined with
Babe Ruth's. They went to the Red Sox
together from Baltimore. When starter Ruth was ejected from a June 23, 1917 game
for protesting a walk to the first batter he faced, Shore relieved, and, after the
runner was caught stealing, pitched a perfect game. The two later were roommates
with the Yankees. Shore was a winner in his four years with the Red Sox, including
a 19-8 (1.64) 1915 mark, but was ineffective after spending 1918 in WWI military
service.
