    Eddie Kasko

Kasko, a reliable ML infielder for ten years, was named the NL All-Star shortstop in 1961 when the Reds won the pennant. The year before, he set career highs by hitting .292 with 51 RBI. With Houston in 1964, he led NL shortstops in fielding percentage. He was known as a laid-back practical joker who could keep a clubhouse loose. After managing for three years in the International League, he led the Red Sox for four seasons. Although he brought them in third twice and second twice, his soft-spoken, unflappable approach was deemed too placid by the front office. (BC)
