Apr 15, 1947 - Facing Johnny Sain Jackie Robinson goes hitless in 3 trips in his debut but handles 11 chances at 1B a new position for him in a 5-3 Brooklyn win over the Braves. Coach Clyde Sukeforth interim manager and the man credited with first scouting Robinson guides the team to 2 wins and a loss before he steps down. The Dodgers also announce the release of Ed Head who threw a no-hitter last year to Ft. Worth.
Apr 23, 1946 - Ed Head of the Brooklyn Dodgers tosses a no-hitter at the Braves beating Boston's Mort Cooper 5-0 before 30287 at Ebbets Field. It is Head's first ML appearance since his return from the military. He last pitched in the ML in July 9 1944 when the Pirates knocked him out in 2 innings. Head was a left-handed pitcher until 1935 when he broke his pitching arm and he was forced to pitch right-handed.
Jun 23, 1944 - The Dodgers Ed Head tosses a 2-hitter against the Phillies to win his 4th straight 2-0. Philadelphia infielder Charley Letchas accounts for both Phillies hits.
Aug 22, 1943 - The Dodgers beat the Pirates twice 6-1 and 8-6 with Hank Gornicki losing both games. Ed Head and Rex Barney are the winners.
