Jun 29, 1949 - At Fenway The Yankees spot the Red Sox a 7 run lead before roaring back against Ellis Kinder. Joe DiMaggio hits a 3-run homer in the 5th off Kinder and clouts a 2nd HR in the 8th off Earl Johnson breaking a 7-7 tie. New York wins 9-7 with Joe Page victorious in relief.
Oct 3, 1948 - On the last day of the regular season Cleveland's hopes for a Yankee win over the Red Sox are dashed when New York rookie Bob Porterfield can't hold a 2-0 lead. With New York trailing 5-4 reliever Vic Raschi gives up HRs to Dom DiMaggio one of his 4 hits and Vern Stephens in the 6th inning and Boston wins 10-5. The other DiMaggio has two doubles two singles and 3 RBIs for New York. Earl Johnson in relief of Joe Dobson in the 5th is the winner.
May 21, 1946 - At Detroit the Red Sox win an uphill battle 6-4 over Detroit and stretch their AL lead to 6 games. Earl Johnson pitches 5 innings of hitless relief and hits 2 doubles scoring the tying run after his 1st double. His second double drives in a pinch runner from 2B subbing for Dom DiMaggio who was injured stealing.
May 10, 1946 - Before a Friday Ladies' Day crowd at Yankee Stadium of 64183 the first-place Red Sox take their 15th straight game a 5-4 win over the Yankees. Earl Johnson gets the win with 4 innings of scoreless relief. A Joe DiMaggio grand slam accounts for all the Bombers' scoring.
Sep 14, 1940 - The Yankees finally erupt against Detroit pitching bombarding Bobo Newsom for a 16-7 win. Joe Gordon clouts two homers and Joe DiMaggio has two doubles among his 4 hits as he takes over the AL hitting lead from Rip Radcliff. The Tigers lead the AL by a half game as Red Sox rookie Earl Johnson stops the Indians 2-1.
