Boston's lead is cut to 2 1/2 games over New York with Cleveland 3 1/2 back of Boston after beating Detroit 10-1 behind Gene Bearden.
Jul 21, 1945 - The Yankees bomb the White Sox into 6th place 12-3 with the help of three homers. Nick Etten connects with the bases full and Herschel Martin and Bud Metheny connect as well. Ernie Bonham wins his 2nd of the year as the Yankees chase Earl Caldwell in the 1st inning.
Aug 23, 1936 - At Cleveland's League Park seventeen-year-old Bob Feller makes his first ML start and strikes out 15 one less than the AL record as Cleveland beats St. Louis 4-1. Feller walks four and gives up six hits in beating Earl Caldwell.
