A 1983 New York Times poll labeled Rennert the best all-around arbiter in the NL. His style of calling a strike gets everyone 's attention. First he pivots, to his right if the batter is righthanded or left if the batter is lefthanded, points his arm (right arm for righthanders and left for lefthanders) toward the dugout, then sweeps his arm behind his back while booming in a voice suitable for warning ships away from rocks: "Striiike Wuuuun!"
