A versatile switch'uh)''@@hitter, Farrell broke in as a protege of
Cap Anson, who
discovered him as a semi-pro player while the White Stockings were barnstorming New
England. With Boston of the
American Association in 1891, Farrell had league highs
of 12 HR and 110 RBI. He later led the NL in pinch hits three times, and pinch hit
for the Boston Puritans (later Red Sox) in the first
World Series in 1903. He was
a Boston Brave scout until his death.
