Maddux has it his way: In the Giants' five decades in San Francisco, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax had nothing on Greg Maddux. Nor did Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton. Nor Tom Seaver, Orel Hershiser, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz. A Giants nemesis of historic proportions, Maddux has...

Bavasi, 93, built Dodgers'title teams as GM:

Buzzie Bavasi, a general manager whose Dodgers teams won four World Series titles in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, died Thursday. He was 93.

His death was announced by the Seattle Mariners, whose general manager is Bill Bavasi, a son of the former Dodgers GM.

"Buzzie was one of the game's greatest front office executives during a period that spanned parts of six different decades,"baseball commissioner Bud Selig said."He loved the game, and he loved talking about it."

Emil Joseph Bavasi's Dodgers teams included future Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Bavasi later was part owner and president of the San Diego Padres, then became executive vice president of the California Angels. He spent 44 years working in baseball.

With the Dodgers, he played a role in Robinson becoming the first African-American to play in the major leagues.

During his tenure as GM from 1951-68, the Dodgers won their only World Series in Brooklyn in 1955 and won Series titles in Los Angeles in 1959, 1963 and 1965.

    Dodgertown era nears end:

After 60 years in this sweet spot where players and fans chat on pathways made of crushed seashells, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to play today for the final time at Holman Stadium. After the split-squad game against Houston, they'll head west to finish the exhibition schedule. Next spring, Los Angeles plans to open an $80 million complex in Glendale, Ariz., that they'll share with the Chicago White Sox. So long, Don Drysdale Drive. Farewell, Vin Scully Way. Make way for Cal Ripken Road and Brooks Robinson Boulevard -- the Baltimore Orioles are eager to slide 150 miles north from Fort Lauderdale."There's probably no place in the world that holds more memories for me,"Scully said.
