Texas ties

Players, coaches and key front-office personnel who are either from Texas, went to college in the Lone Star State or have spent time with the Rangers:

Phillies

Clay Condrey, RHP:Texas native went to Navasota High and Angelina CC in Lufkin.

Dallas Green, senior advisor to GM:Pitched the 1965 season for the Washington Senators, who later became the Rangers.

Charley Kerfeld, special assistant to GM:A former Astros closer, was special assistant to GM with Rangers in 2006.

Gordon Lakey, director of major-league scouting:Austin native went to Texas and lives in Barker.

Davey Lopes, first-base coach:Held same spot with Rangers from 1988-1991 and also served as dugout coach.

Jamie Moyer, LHP:Acquired with Rafael Palmeiro from Cubs, pitched for the Rangers way back in 1989 and 1990.

Dickie Noles, employee assistance:Spent part of two seasons pitching for the Rangers in 1984 and 1985.

Steve Smith, third-base coach: Worked in same capacity for Rangers from 2002-2006 and was also the fielding coach.

Matt Stairs, OF:The journeyman played 26 games for the Rangers late in 2006, hitting .210 with three homers.

Rays

Carl Crawford, LF:The Houston native was drafted in the second round in 1999 out of Jeff Davis High.

Andrew Friedman, executive vice president of baseball operations:Houston native played at Tulane.

Steve Henderson, hitting coach:From Houston, Henderson graduated from Prairie View and was drafted in 1974.

Jim Hickey, pitching coach:A first-team All-American at UT-Pan American in 1983.

Scott Kazmir, LHP:The 2002 High School Player of the Year after going 11-2 with a 0.37 ERA at Cy Falls High in Houston.

J.P. Howell, LHP:31st overall pick in 2004 after helping Texas to the College World Series.

Dave Martinez, bench coach:The Rangers were one of four teams he played for in 2000.
