A consistent first baseman for the Reds, Hoblitzell was sold to the Red Sox in the
middle of 1914 and assigned to room with rookie pitcher
Babe Ruth. A starter for
Boston's World Champions in 1915 and '16, he retired two years later at the age of
29 to practice dentistry. He later returned to baseball as a minor league manager
and umpire.
