    Dick Farrell

The 6'4" 215-lb Farrell lost his major league debut as a starter in 1956, then relieved in his next 258 appearances. He overpowered hitters with his sinking fastball and led the NL with ten relief wins his rookie 1957 season with Philadelphia. In the 1958 All-Star Game, he struck out four of the seven batters he faced, including Ted Williams. Selected by Houston from Los Angeles in the 1961 expansion draft, Farrell became a starter and lost 20 for the original Colt .45s. Returned to the bullpen when the Phillies reacquired him in 1967, he again led the NL with ten relief wins. Farrell retired with 83 career saves. He worked on an offshore oil rig in Great Britain and was killed in a 1977 auto accident in Yarmouth, England. (AL)
