When Dick Drott won 15 games for the seventh-place Cubs in 1957, he seemed headed
for stardom. He was wild enough to lead the league in walks, but his fastball intimidated
batters at first. Then, his career floundered because of arm problems and he passed
to the expansion Houston team in the draft.
On April 27 of his rookie season, Drake
was ejected from a game for borrowing a wheelchair from a crippled fan and wheeling
fellow flake Moe Drabowsky to first base after Drabowsky was hit on the foot by a
pitch.
