Howard played regularly for the Pirates and Braves before coming to the Cubs in 1907. Although he could not break into the strong Chicago lineup, he was a useful backup on the 1907 and '08 championship teams. His younger brother Ivan played in the AL from 1914 to 1917. (BC)
