After serving with the Army in China and the Philippines during the Boxer Rebellion
and the Spanish-American War, Altizer played every position but pitcher and catcher.
He was known for shouting "No, no, no" whenever he was tagged out. In 1908 he invented
a postcard with a photo of William Jennings Bryan which, when held up to the light,
also showed a photo of the White House. Altizer later umpired in the minors.
