A graduate of the University of Michigan, Okrent was an editor at several publishing houses before becoming editor of New England Monthly in 1983. A former commissioner of the Rotisserie Baseball League (1980-1983), he was a contributor to Rotisserie League Baseball (1984), co-editor of The Ultimate Baseball Book, a collection of photos, anecdotes and statistics, (1979), and author of Nine Innings (1985).
