In his first two years with the Tigers, the righthanded-hitting Alexander showed a powerful bat but an iron glove. Then in 1931, as his fielding began to improve, he lost his home run swing, hitting only 3 after two 20-plus seasons. When his BA dipped to .250 in June of the next year, the Tigers traded him to the Red Sox for aging outfielder Earl Webb. "Moose" suddenly went on a batting tear, hitting .372 for the rest of the season to end with an AL-high .367 BA. But his fielding was still a liability and his power was gone. When he hit a weak .281 as a part-timer in 1933, his ML career was over. (EC)
