The Leibrandt for Bob Tufts deal remains one of the Royals' best trades. While Tufts
never pitched another game, Charlie established himself as the paradigm of reliability
in the Kansas City rotation. Not equipped with one outstanding pitch, he mastered
the talent of painting the edge of the strike zone while never coming down the center.
Overshadowed by Saberhagen and Gubicza, he posted the most Royals victories from
1985 to 1988.
