Fox caught only three games for the Giants but began managing in their farm system
at Class-D level and worked his way up to Triple-A. He served as a scout for the
Giants and ML coach before replacing
Clyde King as Giants manager early in the 1970
season. He led San Francisco to the Western Division championship the next year and
was voted
TSN's ML Manager of the Year. A traditionalist with a fiery temper,
Fox was later both GM and interim manager of the Expos and interim manager of the
Cubs.
