    Jun 8, 1942 - Despite 2 homers by Jeff Heath and 5 hits by Ken Keltner‚ the Indians lose 11-10 to the Yankees in 11 innings. Tom Ferrick's wild throw to 3B allows DiMaggio to score the winning run. Joe Gordon singles in the 10th to extend his hitting streak to 25 games‚ and Buddy Hassett's 2 singles extends his hit streak to 20 games.

    May 29, 1942 - New York's Lefty Gomez‚ self-described as the worst-hitting pitcher in baseball‚ bangs out 4 hits in pitching a 4-hit‚ 16-1 victory over Washington. They are his last ML hits. Buddy Hassett adds 4 hits as well.

    Feb 5, 1942 - In one of their best trades ever‚ the Braves get minor-leaguer Tommy Holmes from the Yankees for Buddy Hassett and Gene Moore. Hassett will hit .284‚ then join the Navy and will not make it back to the ML. The much-traveled Moore will be traded by the Yanks in less than 3 weeks. Holmes‚ with three .300+ seasons in the IL‚ could not break into New York's all star outfield. In 10 seasons with the Braves he will hit over .300 and win the MVP in 1948.

    Jun 14, 1940 - In the Bees 4-2 win over the Cubs‚ Boston 1B Buddy Hassett fouls out in the 8th inning after hitting safely in 10 straight at bats over 3 games. He walked once in the streak. Before the game‚ Boston sends C Al Lopez to Pittsburgh for C Paul Burris and cash.

    Dec 13, 1938 - Fred Frankhouse returns to the Boston Bees‚ and Joe Stripp goes to Brooklyn in a player swap. In a separate transaction‚ the Dodgers send Buddy Hassett and Jimmy Outlaw to the Bees for Gene Moore and Ira Hutchinson.

    Apr 15, 1936 - The Giants Harry Gumbert defeats the Dodgers Van Lingle Mungo‚ 5-3‚ in a game the features a fine brawl between Mungo and Dick Bartell. On an unassisted ground out to 1B Buddy Hassett‚ Mungo comes over to cover the bag and gives a hard block to the batter Bartell‚ Rowdy Richard goes flying and comes up swinging. Umpire Beans Reardon races over and pries the 2 combatants apart‚ then tosses them. Tomorrow they get a fine from Frick. Ox Eckard‚ 35‚ a veteran of the NFL Giants‚ clubs his one and only ML homer‚ a 2-run shot‚ for the Dodgers.
