Aug 3, 1954 - At Forbes Field Reds manager Birdie Tebbetts starts lefty Bud Podbielan but Fred Haney counters with an all-lefty Pirate lineup. Birdie then lifts Podbielan after one batter and brings in righty Joe Nuxhall. The ploy works and the Reds 7-2.
Jun 22, 1954 - At Ebbets Field Bud Podbielan pitches a 2-hitter as the Reds roll by the Dodgers 13-1.
May 18, 1953 - Redlegs P Bud Podbielan walks 13 batters in 10 innings against Brooklyn but holds on to win 2-1 on a Ted Kluszewski homer off starter Preacher Roe. No one has walked 13 in the NL since 1918. The Dodgers strand 18 against the former Dodger pitcher tying the NL mark.
Sep 30, 1951 - Jackie Robinson hits an upper deck HR in the 14th inning off Robin Roberts who came on in the 8th to give the Dodgers a critical 9-8 win over the Phils. Robbie saves the game in the 13th by making a great catch of an Eddie Waitkus line drive and throwing to 2B for a DP. In the process he injures his elbow. Reliever Bud Podbielan is the winner the victory keeping Brooklyn in a first place tie with the Giants. Catcher Andy Seminick of the Phils walks 5 times the first Phillie to do so in a game. The Dodgers overcome a 6-1 deficit to win and set the stage for a playoff with the Giants.
