Frisco, Oklahoma fall in title-series openers:
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.— Designated hitter Hank Conger doubled with the bases loaded in the eighth inning as Arkansas defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 3-0 Tuesday night in the opener of their best-of-five Texas League Championship series.
The Travelers loaded the bases on two walks and an error to set up CongerÂ’s bases-clearing hit. The RoughRiders, the Double A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, went down in order in the ninth.The bottom of the eighth started with Frisco starting pitcher Derek Holland walking Chris Pettit. With one out, a throwing error on a force attempt at second base left Pettit at third and Wilberto Ortiz on first. A walk to Brian Stavisky loaded the bases.Brandon Puffer came on in relief, and after getting the second out, Conger doubled to center field.Barret Browning got the win and Rafael Rodriguez earned the save for the Travelers.Game 2 of the series is at 7 p.m. Wednesday in North Little Rock, and Game 3 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in Frisco at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
