Miller stumbled while carrying a suitcase during his rookie year with the Phillies, causing a chronic sacroiliac problem. He nevertheless finished 11-6 for the 1950 Whiz Kids, then in the World Series was knocked out by the Yankees in the first inning of his Game Four start. He remained with Philadelphia for almost a decade, working mostly in relief. (NLM)
