Canadian-born Hoopere won 15 games as a rookie with the last-place 1950 Philadelphia Athletics, who won only 52 games that year. After one more good season in 1951 (12-10), Hoopere developed arm trouble. He spent two more seasons with the A's before becoming a relatively obscure member of the great 1954 Indians pitching staff.
