The Blue Jays made Bailor, a shortstop in the Orioles' organization, their first
pick in the 1976 expansion draft. As a rookie, he hit .310, a record for a player
on a first-year expansion franchise. Bailor was hustling, versatile, and injury-prone.
After four years as a Toronto regular, he spent 1981-83 as a much-used Mets utility
man. He was traded to the Dodgers with
Carlos Diaz for
Sid Fernandez and Ross Jones,
a trade that helped the Mets more than Bailor ever did.
