As Philadelphia's player-manager in 1896, Nash left the team briefly to scout a player in Fall River, MA, and returned with Nap Lajoie. Before managing the Phillies, Nash was a consistent third baseman in Boston for 11 seasons, twice hitting 10 home runs. (JK)
