Wright was a 6'4" 220-lb outfielder, a fast runner who often batted cleanup. Though
statistics for his career are fragmentary, he is credited with a league-leading .488
batting average in 1939, and probably had a career Negro League mark of over .350.
He hit .318 in seven East-West all-star games, and .371 in 27 exhibition games against
major leaguers. He also played several seasons in Mexico, where he led the league
in hitting (.390) in 1941 and won the Triple Crown in 1943 (.366, 13 HR, 70 RBI).
After 1945 he played exclusively in Mexico, making it his
permanent home.
