Phillips didn't stick in the ML until he was 31, when he was 17-9 for the 1899 Reds. In 1914 he managed the Federal League's first pennant winner at Indianapolis, with Benny Kauff, Bill McKechnie, and Edd Roush as the team's stars. (JK)
