A catcher, Meyer broke in with Knoxville in the Southeastern League in 1910 and was
up briefly with the White Sox and A's in 1916-17. He played eight years at Louisville
(
American Association). In 1926 he succeeded Joe McCarthy as Louisville manager and
won a pennant in his first year. He managed 16 years in the Yankees organization,
won pennants in the International m}

League, New York-Penn League, Eastern
League, and
American Association, and was named minor league manager of the year
in 1939 at Kansas City. He was offered the Yankees job in 1946, but he had suffered
a heart attack and did not think he was up to it. He returned to Kansas City and
won another pennant. He went to the Pirates in 1948 and was named
TSN Manager of the Year for a fourth-place finish. He later scouted for the Pirates.
