Bernie Williams from the Chronology
Aug 27, 2006 - At Anaheim, the Yankees get two homers each from Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter to beat the Angels, 11-8, and avoid a three game sweep. Williams adds a double and drives in 6 runs. The Angels are the only team Joe Torre has a losing record against as the Yankee manager; the Haloes are 53-51 against the Yanks with Torre as the skipper.
Jun 20, 2006 - The Yankees score four in the 8th to overtake the Phillies, winning 9-7. Bernie Williams has 5 hits, including a pair of doubles. Jason Giambi hits a homer and passes Bobby Bonds into 84th place on the all time HR list, with 333. Jorge Posada adds a homer and they are all needed as Ryan Howard has two homers and a triple to drive in all 7 runs.
Jun 13, 2006 - The Yankees and Indians, the two highest scoring teams in the ML, play to a 1–0 decision with the Yanks prevailing on Robinson Cano’s homer off of Paul Byrd. Chien-Ming Wang (7-2) is the winner. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the 1st time that the highest scoring team in the majors beat the 2nd highest in a 1-0 game since 1964 (Twins 1, Yankees 0) and only the 4th time since 1900. For Yankees CF Bernie Williams it is his 2000th ML game.
Aug 17, 2002 - The Yankees defeat the Mariners, 8–3, as Alfonso Soriano homers to become the first 2B ever to hit 30 HRs and steal 30 bases in a season. NY OF Bernie Williams singles in his 1st at bat to give him 11 consecutive hits. He gets out his next time up to fall 1 short of the ML record. His 5-for-5 and 4-for-4 in back-to-back games, the first in 45 years, won’t be duplicated until the Pirates’ Jayson Werth matches him in 2007.
