A talented Bahamian cricket player, Rodgers paid his own way to a Giants tryout in Florida in 1954. He had to learn the rules of baseball, and not to jump away from curveballs. A graceful 6'3", Rodgers adjusted. He became the Cubs' shortstop in 1962 as Ernie Banks moved to first. (JCA)
